Music Opportunities

"Active participation in music from an early age is good for children, but did you know it's been well documented that active participation in music can help children optimise their potential by improving capabilities in a number of essential learning areas – such as reasoning and problem solving, mathematics and language, lateral thinking and memory, time management and eloquence, social and team skills – not to mention the transformative impact music can have on a child for the rest of their life."  David Hobson 2009

Music Education is valued at All Saints. Children participate in Music Lessons each week and from Year 3 have the opportunity to participate in a variety of extra curricula Music activities.  Classroom activities include singing, dancing, playing recorder, reading music, writing music and, for the Year 6’s, keyboard and Garage Band in the Mac Lab.

Extra Curricula activities include:

  • Strings lessons for children from Year 3 (Violin, Viola, Cello)
We have two String Ensembles which practice once each week and perform at times throughout the year.
  • Band Instruments lessons from Year 3 (Flute, clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Percussion)

We have a Jazz Band, Senior Concert Band and Junior Band which meet once each week and perform at times throughout the year.
  • Our choral programme runs from Year 4 and gives the children the opportunity to perform in choirs at their level.
We have a Year 4 Girls Choir, Year 4-7 Boys Choir and a Chamber Choir which is a small group of auditioned singers from Year 5-6.

Highlights of the year include our Music Camp, where children in the Senior groups spend two days away to participate in musical activities and the All Saints Soiree at which all children participating in extra-curricula musical activities are giving the opportunity to perform.
