Community News

Thank You
Thanks to the parents who have been serving the children on the Father’s Day stall this week. It was great to see lots of happy children shopping for their dads. I’m sure there will be many happy dads on Sunday morning.

External Validation
We will be having an External Validation Panel visit our school on October 22. The panel of visitors will come to All Saints to look at many aspects of school and to spend some of the day visiting various classes and looking at programs that we have here.

We were a part of a review in 2007, as one of the last schools to go through the old process. This year we are one of the first schools to undergo the new format. Along with this review we have had committees of teachers looking at various aspects of what we doe here at All Saints. There have been groups of parents surveyed for feedback on a range of these components to renewal. This feedback will assist us to rate how we are going in each area and give us some information to incorporate into our future directions.

All Saints Book Week
“Fuel Your Mind” activities have been happening this week. It was great to see the Prep children dress up on Tuesday as a part of the fun. My sincere thanks to the library team for the excellent effort they have put into marking this special week at All Saints. We are very lucky indeed to have such wonderful ladies working in the library who make it such a hive of activity and fun for all of the children from Prep to Year 7.

fuel your mind Book Week 2008

This week also marks National Literacy Week and so is a great time to celebrate the importance and joy of reading. Classes have been coming with their buddies and making a range of art and craft activities related to the characters in the winning books. Look out for some beautiful artwork coming to your home! Our upper classes enjoyed reading The Peasant Prince which is a children's version of the novel Mao's Last Dancer. The mini kites on display outside the library have the children's paper wishes attached to them - some artistic work indeed!

National Literacy WeekPlease feel free to walk through the library this week or next and see what the children have been up to. Thank you to all the classes for their great work and especially the 'big buddies' who so wonderfully help the younger classes enjoy the art activities. Many of the classes finished their time with some buddy reading on our deck!

Reach for the StarsYou Can Do It - Persistence

This week at school we are spending time teaching children the Foundation of Persistence. We want to teach children to try hard and not give up easily when doing school work they find frustrating and do not feel like doing. What you say to your child has a large impact of your child’s Persistence.

During this week, we would like you to discuss with your child the idea that “The harder you try at doing something, the more skilled you become.” You can pick an example from your own life or that of another to illustrate the idea.

And when you catch your child trying hard, give lots of praise
(“Making that effort will help you learn,” “Great effort”)

Congratulations

Congratulations to Slater 7K. Slater is the Regional winner of the Channel 9 Junior Cadet Reporter competition. He was successful in the Year 6/7 Sports Reporter category. He now goes on to compete in the wider Brisbane final. Well done and good luck Slater. He is competing for an impressive prize for his school.

All Saints Children’s Liturgy
—Sunday September 7 at the 9am Mass.

A special Mass is held on the first Sunday of each month ( in school term time) at the 9am Mass. Your primary school age children are invited by Fr Ron to leave the Sunday assembly at the start of Mass and to gather according to age group with leaders for around 20 minutes to celebrate a separate Liturgy of the Word that is more appropriate to their level of understanding.

The purpose of adapting liturgical celebrations to make them more accessible to children is to gradually lead them to full, conscious and active participation in the Mass.

New Leaders are more than welcome-guidance and materials are supplied. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, please contact Luisa Koh on 3325 1056.

Market Day

A Market Day will be held on the oval on Sunday November 2. All are welcome to bring their new items, second hand items, trash and treasure for sale (no electrical items). The cost for each stand will be $20 which will be payable to the school. A stall can consist of a large table, boot load or trailer of goods.
Each family selling goods will retain all their own profits (unless you wish to donate some to All Saints School/Parish for better resources etc).

Once all money’s have been received by interested vendors each family will be allocated their own area on the oval to set up their stall. All applications for stalls and money MUST be received by Monday October 6 to allow for allocation of all stalls on the oval. No one will be allowed to set up on the day without their stall number and location.

There will also be a BBQ with hamburgers, a sausage sizzle and drinks will be available. Application forms will be available from the School Office or by contacting Monica Schiavo who will then email forms out. Please access the School Grounds via the gate in Willow Street at the rear of the school.

Spot on Sportz

Congratulations to the children who competed in the Disc Golf last week. The children who competed had a great time and were a credit to the school. Thanks to the teachers and parents who took the time to transport the children and to supervise. Our 5 teams finished 1st, 4th, 5th, 9th and one team had a team member who did not compete so their score did not count.

Georgia finished 1st in the girls division - well done Georgia. Presentations will be made to the team at Assembly in a couple of weeks.

Zone 6 Athletics was on today. There were many children who represented the school and who have been training hard for this day. Thanks to the teachers and parents who have been involved in preparing them for the day.
