HAPPY CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK
This week is Catholic Education Week. All 296 Catholic Schools across Queensland are taking time out of their week to celebrate the specialness of being a Catholic school and belonging to the Catholic Education Community. A Catholic school is not a private school. It is a faith-based school that has as its centre the teachings of Jesus. Our motto "To Walk In Love" articulates what we aspire to in all our teaching and learning. This Friday the 1st of August, we are celebrating the week with a mass led by Fr. Ron Mollison. You are very welcome to join us.
This week's newsletter contains some interesting statistics about Catholic Schools in Queensland.
All Saints School is planning to transform the front garden into one filled with hands that display the many unique talents and gifts that each and every student in our school has to offer. In the foyer, there will be a display from Prep – Year 2 that shares with the community the students‘ dreams for when they get older, encouraging them to "Reach for the Stars‘. On Friday, the whole school will participate in a Catholic Education week Mass of celebration which will commence at 2pm. Please feel free to come and join us in this celebration. I thank you for your ongoing support and look forward to seeing you during Catholic Education Week 2014.
ST VINNIES SLEEP OUT
Our Year 7s will participate in the St Vincent de Paul sleep out this Friday evening. This night is a very special opportunity for the students to gain a greater understanding of what it feels like to be homeless. If your child has not brought back the permission slips and money, please ensure they do so as soon as possible. There will be a guest speaker from St Vinnies there to speak with the students. This will also be the time when the two classes pack up all of the items collected from the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal that you so kindly donated towards last term.
Congratulations to Chloe Chloe from Year 6, competed at the Qld State Cross Country at John Paul College on Friday. Chloe has now been selected to compete for the second year in a row at the National Cross Country in Albany, Western Australia. Congratulations Chloe on such a wonderful achievement and good luck in Albany.
ALERT PROGRAMME - YEAR 1 PARENT NIGHT We are having a Year 1 parent night on Wednesday 6th August at 7pm for a new programme that we are introducing in Year 1 this term. The programme is to assist students in understanding how to self-regulate themselves by looking for clues from how they are thinking and feeling. The programme helps students understand how ready they are to work, play, listen and participate in activities. We believe that this programme will be very beneficial to the students and if parents know what to do they can reinforce it at home by using the same language and techniques. I have attached a flyer that outlines the programme and the parent evening. If you would like any more information please see Kelli in the office or Kaye in Learning Support.
