Classroom Sound Systems

This week we are rolling out to all classrooms the new Phonak SoundField amplification system. Thanks to the money raised at this year’s Albany Fair and a donation from the P&F, all classes will have a system that will
provide an even spread of speaker voice across the room. Teachers were trained last week by a BCE Hearing Consultant. These systems will improve student listen by over 15% and also reduce issues of teacher voice
strain. There has been a lot of research done on the benefits of these systems in classrooms. Some of the benefits of this research includes:

Benefits for Students:

  • Improves sentence recognition ability
  • Increases attention, interaction and participation
  • Accelerates acquisition of reading, writing and numeracy skills
  • Simplifies deciphering of language in early learning years
  • Betters understanding of teacher for non-native speakers
  • Expands seating options
  • Increases likelihood that students at the back of the room hear as well as the student at the front of the room.
Benefits for Teachers:
  • Reduces vocal strain
  • Aids class instruction and management
  • Reduces discipline problems through improved voice-control of students
  • Lessens stress
  • Improves class mobility.
