iPad Backup

It is expected that the student will be responsible for backing up their iPad on a regular basis. During the initial setup process, iCloud backup will be enabled. It is recommended that regular checking be conducted to ensure that the backups are up to date.
There are 2 methods to choose from when backing up your child's iPad which are detailed below:

1. iCloud Backup:

iCloud automatically backs up your child's iPad across all iOS devices using the same Apple ID. iCloud automatically backs up the most important data on the device. Once Backup has been enabled on the iPad, it will run on a daily basis as long as the device:
  • is connected to the Internet over Wi-Fi
  • is connected to a power source
  • has the screen locked
To check that Backup is enabled on your child's iPad, go to Settings > iCloud > Backup & Storage. You can also back up manually whenever the device is connected to the Internet over Wi-Fi by choosing Back Up Now from Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup.

If iCloud backup has not been enabled on your child's iPad:

1. Tap Settings, then iCloud. If iCloud has not been set up you will need to enter your child's Apple ID and password and follow the prompts on the screen.
2. Turn on the Apps, Documents and Data that you want backed up.
3. Tap on Storage and Backup.
4. Make sure iCloud Backup is tuned On.
5. iCloud backup is now turned on.

2. Backup to iTunes on any Mac/PC computer:

In order to backup your iPad using iTunes:
1. Connect your child's iPad to a computer via the USB charging cable, with the latest version of iTunes installed. Ensure nothing else is connected.
2. In iTunes, select iPad (top right).
3. Under Backups, tap on the This Computer radio button.
4. Select Backup now.
Optional: Tap Sync with iPad over WiFi to turn on automatic syncing/backup when the iPad is charging and iTunes is running on the computer with the same WiFi network.
5. Once complete, disconnect your child's iPad.
